SFC Troy James. James served 22 years in the Army Artillery. A Military Chaplin will officiate the service. Richard "The General" Johnston. Richard Johnston, age 76, passed away on January 21, , in DeRidder, Louisiana, in the loving care of much of his family. Soon after, he enlisted in the Navy and served his country for four years. Richard then put his skills to use as a merchant marine for Exxon and then applied himself to various occupations as a jack-of-all-trades contractor for the next several years.
Throughout his occupations was an enjoyment and love for history, so he returned to school to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in History. He realized his dream by graduating in from McNeese State University. With the support of his wife, Patricia, Richard began teaching high school social studies at various schools in southwest Louisiana.
For many, this would have meant the end of a fruitful life and the beginning of a passive retirement. Despite the physical challenges of the tasks, Richard worked sacrificially to not only to lead in the repair and improvement of the buildings of the church, but also to personally support the pastor and his parsonage as Dry Creek Baptist Church transitioned between full-time and interim pastors. Though his life took him to many places and jobs, it also ended with a commitment to using his accumulated skills and knowledge to serve the church.

Megan Marie Lack. A beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend. Megan Marie Lack left this world unexpectedly, at 26, on December 27, Megan was a lover of hunting and fishing. She was funny and outgoing, and was loyal to her friends and family. We will always remember her smile and caring personality. Her presence in our lives will be sorely missed. They shared their knowledge of the world with everyone they came into contact with. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, W. Sammie L. Williams Jarrell. Williams Jarrell was born on December 17, , in Broaddus, Texas and passed from this life on December 13, , at her home in Merryville, Louisiana surrounded by love. Sammie or Bo as she was lovingly called touched lives everywhere she went.
People who knew her, loved her laugh, giving spirit and heartfelt kindness. She never turned away someone in need. Sammie worked for many years at the Merryville Hospital and Nursing Center where she served in many different positions, everything from an EMT to head of Central Supply to the most rewarding job of taking care of people, families and patients alike. She continued in this line of caring for people following her departure from the Nursing Center with working for Larry and Carolyn Karr at Sabine Drugs and many, many hours of private duty sitting.
She simply loved to do for others, she believed the more she gave the more it enriched her life. She also enjoyed many different creative ventures. She was a published poet, loved to draw, paint and color, crochet, embroidery, quilt, and as most know sew. She could take the most common piece of cloth and turn it into a breathtaking masterpiece. Sammie also loved to take road trips. She traveled many miles with her cousin Vergie and then later in life with her daughter Glenda and friend Cheryl. Natchitoches was one of her most favorite places to visit and they made the trip as often as possible.

Jessie was born in DeRidder and lived in Ragley until he married his wife of over 60 years, Myrtle, in Jessie received a Bronze Star during his deployment in the Korean War. In he continued his career with the Department of Defense as a civilian, from which he retired in as the Chief of Logistics at Communication Command Headquarters at Fort Polk.
Jessie was a true spiritual leader of his home, and his faith never wavered, even during his short but courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be Friday, November 23 from 5 — 7 p. Doyle Ray Tucker. Doyle accepted the Lord as his personal Lord and Savior at 16 and was ordained to serve as deacon 60 years ago. He faithfully served in churches where he was a member. Doyle married the former Yvonne Jordan on May 8, Together they had four children. Doyle was raised in Simpsonville, Texas. He trained as a weather observer and maintained the teletype machine.
Upon retirement, Gerald Johnson, mayor of DeRidder, appointed him to serve as City Electrician Inspector, and he inspected all electrical work at new building sites within the city limits of DeRidder and attended monthly board meetings with electrical contractors. He enjoyed his church, family, friends, fishing, football, playing dominos and working crossword puzzles.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, four sisters, and two sons, Reginald Ray Tucker and Alan Doyle Tucker.
