Firstly, I made the mistake of eating while I read this! This was a fun little story, it's a very quick read and it worked well. Feet are disgusting in my opinion. The only use they have is to walk on.

This story took everything that is disgusting about them and amplified it, making this a cringe filled gooey horror comedy. If the authors aim was to make me squirm, he did it. Feb 12, Melki rated it really liked it Shelves: horror , short-fiction. Basically everything you can hope for in a short little tale of horror.

First and foremost, I'd like to thank the author, Adam Light, for giving me the opportunity to read Vengeance By The Foot, at no cost whatsoever. I really appreciate it, man. Secondly, I love the play-on words of the title. It's a nice touch. This short tale revolves around Grant, and his fear of "going under the knife. As a child, he had a traumatic experience while at the local hospital.

It's an experience that truly haunts him for life. Grant's wife brings us back First and foremost, I'd like to thank the author, Adam Light, for giving me the opportunity to read Vengeance By The Foot, at no cost whatsoever. Grant's wife brings us back to the present, and the reader falls for Lucy instantaneously I did, at least. The way she's described, along with her seemingly kind and compassionate nature, pulls you in fairly deeply, seeing as how we know next to nothing about her. I would have liked to know a little more about her.

I also think it would have been more interesting if we saw the unfolding events from her perspective. Light offers a nice twist, too. At one point, I literally said to myself, "Aw, all right. I see where this is going.. If I had one critique, I'd say that her departure seemed too abrupt. A more subtle approach might be more effective. I do, however, appreciate the summary of events leading to her leave of absence.

Charles Dumas: FBI Agent Andy Cross

The ways in which Grant is changed by his operation truly speaks volumes. Very well done, Adam! For those in the mood for a short tale about the perils of surgery, peppered with morbid visuals, you might just enjoy Vengeance By The Foot.

As a result, he gets his foot and part of his leg amputated. He blames his wife Lucy for some unbeknownst reason--perhaps for first bringing the wound to his attention. Grant is unable to put his best foot forward and after months of hostility and bitterness, Lucy finally abandons him.

But he doesn't have a leg to stand on and must now fend for himself after growing used to Lucy caring for his every need.

He finally ventures out of his room in search of sustenance. He notices that the screen portion of his front door has been damaged. Immediately he blames Lucy. Then he hears a ruckus in the kitchen Something's afoot. Surely it's just a stray cat that wandered in through the broken screen Negative thoughts about Lucy flood his mind as he curses her. Yet, he'd better be careful not to put his foot in his mouth Adam Light is a talented writer and I truly enjoyed this story. It started off on such a good foot, but I felt that the ending did seem a bit amputated rushed.

I look forward to reading more of Adam Light's stories. One day, I hope to follow in his footsteps. Okay, no more foot puns View all 8 comments. This story is completely ridiculous and that is a good thing! Ever felt like shoving your foot way up someone's frontal or back door orifices? You're dream can come true. This is the way to do it. The Achille's heel of any writer is lack of imagination. Adam Light does not display such feet of clay in this tale.

It's easy to start on the wrong foot when writing, but the author finds his feet from head to toe in this tale. Don't get cold feet! Read this story!

Nov 14, Chris rated it liked it Shelves: short-stories. So I haven't read anything by Adam light before this short story. I have read a few stories by his brother, and fellow author Evans Light. In fact this was recommended to me by Mr. Evans Light himself, so I figured I would give it a try.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect after reading the description but I figured I would go at it with an open mind and try something new. I have to say it is very short and after reading it my thoughts are that it was just ok. The story didn't seem like it could h So I haven't read anything by Adam light before this short story. The story didn't seem like it could have been fleshed out any more than it was, but I still felt it needed something more. With that said, the more I think about, this story couldn't have been any longer unless he ventured into the world of complete insanity.

I do think that if Adam Light would have taken that route and made a longer story; considering it could go good or bad, he would. Have done a good job making the read suspend reality as far as he needed. What I want to point out and congratulate Adam Light about is his descriptions. In the few pages that this story takes place he painted a very descriptive picture that didn't seem over done at all.

He had a way of describing his characters so well I could almost see them standing next to me as I read. This quality forced me to put myself into the story and I truly enjoyed that. I won't hash out the plot here because the description does it well, but his description of the foot was so realistic every detail stood out and made this a very visual story. Although this may not have been my favorite short story it did have quite a bit of skill and imagery that made it worth while.

I am sure this is just meant as a small taste to help draw new readers to Adam Light and I must admit; It worked. I will be checking out his other works after reading this short. I also want to point out that I think it is great that two brothers who are both writers are willing to promote each other's work. It is a tough world out there and having someone who will help promote you while working on their own writing career seems rare. My hat is off to the Light brothers and I hope they continue to write.

Dec 13, Laura Thomas rated it really liked it. This is a wicked fast read. Only takes around 10 minutes. I love the play on words Adam used in the title. Just a warning! They used to be the happy couple. That is, until the infection. He really knows how to stick it to you, with a twist or two for good measure! Nov 12, K. The main character Grant Stone it seems is an ordinary man who is quite taken with his lovely wife Lucy. But he obviously has a serious health problem he has chosen to ignore - until it is too late. This short story begins with the amputation of his "badly rotted left foot".

I found the premise quite interesting, unusual and different, but in a promising way. I was drawn into the story. My heart started to beat rapidly while reading.
