Malo to the Languedoc during a recent sail and drive holiday in France. Madame Archer is a wonderful hostess and we had a great stay. A very friendly welcome and we were able to park our car right outside our ground-floor bedroom. We booked to have dinner at the property that night, and we seemed to be the only people staying at the property that evening, although there were some people from Belgian eating a meal at the same time as us, but I don't think they were staying. Mme Archer made us an excellent meal, real locally sourced ingredients - I've forgotten what the starter was, but we had a duck main course, with Pommes de Terre Sarladaise - a very local specialty, all garlicky and deliciously rich!

Unfortunately, though, she let herself down with the desserts.

I chose the cherry clafoutis, which had probably come out of the fridge and was not as fresh as it should be. My husband had the creme caramel i think and he said it wasn't great. But it was a great stay and we really enjoyed staying here. There's a Fromagerie not very far away from the property, and we dropped in there the following morning, and bought some lovely fresh goats' cheese from the farmer. He also showed us the milking sheds where we were "introduced" to the lovely goats, which I think are called "cabecous".

A lovely stay and well recommended. Read more. Date of stay: May Trip type: Travelled as a couple. Helpful Share.

Very clean and quiet situated in a farming area. Hosts are "the Archers" but no English spoken a bonus I think, as it becomes a chance to practice your French. He argued for this in terms of the "natural" responsibilities of the government to the exporters and importers among its citizenry -- and that considerations of the policies of other nations should not be involved. In other words, a nation should lift its external trade restrictions unilaterally, even if all other countries happen to have protectionist regimes.

In effect, he argued that the function of government was making human laws in accordance with "natural" laws. An absolutist monarch, beholden to no one and owing no one, is in a much better position to do so -- although the historical record shows that they tend to govern arbitrarily and thus no better.

But he blames this arbitrariness not on a lack of will to govern well, but rather on a lack of knowledge of the natural laws. If an absolutist monarch were "educated" about to the natural laws, he would be much more effective at implementing them than a republican government ever could. He paints a picture of an "ideal" society and holds up imperial China as the example to follow.
